Murray Grigor
Since his debut in 1968 with a documentary about Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Scottish filmmaker Murray Grigor (b.1939) has investigated the work of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Carlo Scarpa and John Lautner in numerous films. The focus is always on a differentiated analysis of an architectural position and its reception, as for example in the much-respected contribution concerning John Soane’s influence on protagonists of postmodernism such as Philip Johnson, Richard Meier or Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. In collaboration with Hans Hollein, he contributed several films to the exhibition MAN transFORMS in New York in 1976. Murray Grigor has received numerous prizes for his work, including being the first filmmaker named Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
