"Un dessin n'est pas un plan" brings together seven essays that look at seven different techniques of representation to analyze architectural drawing in the 20th century: Floor plan, section, arrow, grid, images, diagrams, drawing. The underlying hypothesis of this collection is that recent changes in the architectural profession have had little impact on the way architecture is represented. Certainly, the way in which a project is conceptualized, the techniques and tools of representation have changed. But the type of representation itself has remained the same. Floor plan, section, axonometry and perspective, which are both synthetic in their claim and specific in their form, continue to occupy a central position in the reflection and dissemination of architecture.
